For your initial consultation, it is ideal if you bring along any relevant medical reports from other physicians or your GP together with a list of prescribed medicines, your insurance card, and prepare for the payment of any fees.
We treat people from all walks of life – athletes, performance artists, manual workers, children, office executives, and any one dealing with pain-related injuries or conditions.
Regeneration refers to the regrowth of damaged or diseased tissue. Our bodies are capable of regenerating certain organs like the liver; our skin too constantly undergoes a renewal process. However, sometimes tissue or cells are damaged causing pain or mobility or motion impairments. To overcome this, regenerative medicine is an approach to enable the body to restore normal function by replacing or repairing the damaged cells by transplanting stem cells or tissue or stimulating the body’s own repair process.
Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive treatment that accelerates recovery from injured tissues. In addition to accelerating the healing process in the body, shockwaves stimulate metabolism and improve blood circulation, which are biological effects leading to faster and long-term healing and regeneration of the tissue. Shockwave Therapy eliminates pain, restores full mobility, thus improving quality of life.
Shockwave treatment works by using high energy sound waves to stimulate self-healing. These shockwaves – which are not electrical but rather sound shockwaves – are administered through a special wand, a hand-held piece of equipment, that dispenses the waves for a brief amount of time directly to the affected injury area.
Our certified shockwave practitioner will carry out the treatment. The practitioner will start with a comprehensive assessment, including a real-time ultrasound scan, then create a treatment plan before beginning the shockwave treatments. Additionally, they will prescribe the right loading exercises to complement the therapy.
At Emirates Integra, we use Focused and Radial shockwave therapy. Focused shockwave therapy is most often used in the case of small areas requiring precision and focus. Radial shockwave tends to be used for large areas with superficial indications. Your Shockwave practitioner will make the decision depending on the nature of the condition.
The therapy will typically involve one session a week for three to six weeks.
Shockwave Therapy is most commonly considered in response to chronic tendon/muscle injuries, especially those non-responsive to other treatments for more than 3-6 months. With shockwave therapy, we treat a wide range of musculoskeletal injuries and experience a high success rate of 70-90% improvement.
The common conditions we treat with shockwave therapy are as follows:
Yes, most often it is the case that some early loading exercises are prescribed after shockwave therapy. In some rare cases, patients may need to avoid exercising the treated area for a short period of time. Your Shockwave practitioner will provide a plan of exercise and advise you on the intensity and frequency of those exercises.
Significant clinical outcome is often seen 8 to 12 weeks after treatment. During the course of the treatment it is important NOT to take NSAIDs, as the treatment works by stimulation of Pro-inflammatory state.
In the instance of CORTICO STEROID injection, it is required that individuals wait at least 3 months before shockwave treatment. In the case of PRP and other cellular therapy injections, combining shockwave therapy may be highly beneficial. A discussion with your practitioner is encouraged.
There are some instances where shockwave therapy is not appropriate:
Podiatry or Podiatric medicine is a branch of medicine devoted to the study, diagnosis, medical and surgical treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower extremity.
No, it is not. If you have foot pain you should be seen by a podiatrist, an expert healthcare provider specialising in the foot and lower limb.
Everyone is likely to suffer from a foot or lower limb problem within their lifetime. The cause may be secondary to work-related activities, sport, lifestyle, improper footwear, chronic diseases such as diabetes or arthritis, excessive weight gain, overuse injuries or biomechanical inefficiencies. You may suffer from back or knee pain, this could be related to your foot mechanics and foot posture. It is a good idea to see a Podiatrist as soon as you notice a foot problem to prevent the problem and pain getting worse and which may lead to other pains within your body as you compensate for your foot pain.
People of all ages, from babies to children, to young adult, to adult can benefit from seeing a podiatrist.
A podiatrist must have a degree in Podiatry and hold a valid healthcare license for the local area and country in which they practice.
A clinical exercise physiologist is a university educated allied health professional who prescribes exercise to individuals to help improve overall health. Exercise Physiologists study the human body, how it moves, how it functions on a cellular level and how we can optimise each of these aspects of human movement to live healthy and functional lives.
An exercise physiologist prescribes exercise to optimise human movement and function. They can assess current physical capacity through a variety of assessments and physical measures and prescribe an exercise program to help achieve health goals.
They can help achieve personal goals through a tailored exercise program. They can complete a comprehensive health assessment to assess physical capacity, endurance, cardiorespiratory, body composition and long-term health risks.
An exercise physiologist can work with all types of people. Their skill sets are diverse, and knowledge is broad. They can design an exercise program for the general population and people with cardiovascular disease, respiratory, metabolic and neuromuscular diseases.
An exercise physiologist is university educated and has extensive knowledge of the human body, human physiology and how all the systems interact. Exercise Physiologists can help design an exercise program for the general population and for people with cardiovascular disease, respiratory, metabolic and neuromuscular diseases. Personal trainers are qualified fitness professionals who are trained to design exercise programs for the general population.
Chiropractic adjustment is a procedure where chiropractors use their hands or a small instrument to apply either a sudden or controlled force to spinal joints. It is a non-invasive and alternative procedure to correct structural alignment and has immense benefits to those suffering from different conditions.
A general chiropractor focuses on diagnosing and treating neuromuscular disorders. Here, the aim is to offer pain relief and restore function by manually adjusting or manipulating the spine.
For athletes and those involved in intense physical activities often pushing their bodies to the limit. Sports chiropractors treat injuries in a way that enhances performance. A sports chiropractor uses an array of therapies like Kinesio Taping, myofascial release, etc. and the sessions usually last for a longer duration. Their expertise lies in injury prevention and rehabilitation and devising appropriate treatment options so athletes can heal faster and perform better.
Chiropractors treat a wide variety conditions and injuries. They diagnose and treat disorders of the spine and extremities.
Here is a partial list of conditions that are managed conservatively by Chiropractors:
Chiropractors will take a detailed health history during the first visit, prior to initial treatment. This will include details on lifestyle and risk factors to give the Chiropractor a full picture of the patient’s health in order to determine the best treatment. Following the history, a physical exam is completed that includes functional, neurological and orthopaedic testing as well as a postural assessment. Once a plan of management is determined based on your specific diagnosis, the Chiropractor will choose the best approach for your specific condition and treatment goals. Throughout your plan of management, your Chiropractor can also give you information and guidance on how you can stay healthy through proper nutrition, exercise and lifestyle changes.
The adjustment may result in an audible pop or cracking sound within synovial joints. The cause of this audible release (pop or crack) is open to some speculation but is widely accepted to represent cavitation of a spinal zygapophyseal joint.
The purpose of an adjustment is to restore motion to allow optimal joint movement, which will elicit a positive effect on the nervous system. When nervous system function improves in this way, the body can begin the natural healing process.
Yes, of course. Chiropractic manipulations are one way of dealing with joint dysfunction. Movement training such as controlled articular rotations, strength training using the full range of motion, stretching (active, passive, static, dynamic).
Our bodies were designed to move in a specific way. Maintaining normal joint motion is important for achieving optimal physical health. The activities of the human body depend on affective interaction between normal joints and proper communication of the nervous system and muscles that drive joints to move. The same elements also interact reflexively to distribute mechanical stresses among the tissues of the joint. Essentially this means that if your joint(s) have a reduction in its ability to move, there will be mechanical failure leading to injuries and early signs of wear and tear. When nervous system function improves in this way, the body can begin the natural healing process.
It is in fact not that common to have a real food allergy, however, the reduced health of the digestive system has reduced the ability of the gut to handle what are often normal and safe, healthy foods. Because of this, we get hypersensitivity to immune complexes and what is called Type III allergy symptoms. They are not life-threatening like an allergy can be, but they are disruptive to health, unpleasant, often delayed reaction and hard to identify. They may well identify that the state of your digestion needs re-healing rather than going for long-term medications.
Symptoms of food intolerance or vitamin deficiency are dermatitis or extremely dry skin, migraines, abnormal bowel movements, abnormal sleep patterns or seizures, weight gain, undiagnosable muscle, gastric reflux, increased auto-immune symptoms and joint problems
Researchers have found peptides (breakdown products of proteins) with opiate activity, such as casein and gluten, are high in the urine of people with certain health issues and this is particularly so in autism spectrum disorders and auto-immune disease. Why it is so likely that the digestive system is not processing them well enough and looking to gut health is the starting point. Removal of the proteins not only takes away the stimulus, but it also forms a big part of healing the gut lining and boosting absorption of other nutrients and a healthy immune system.
Absolutely. A multi can often just keep levels topped up if you are in good health, but a clinician will also identify nutrients that need to be targeted. There are a few routinely tested nutrients such as vitamin D, iron, calcium, and B12 which your GP can do, however, a clinical nutritionist digs deeper into your individual biochemistry to identify what is going wrong.
This may be that you have genetics that block some pathways and therefore you struggle to activate nutrients. This is the major underlying cause of autism and the inability to methylate B12 and folic acid. Therefore, the body experiences several problems detoxing heavy metals, forming neurotransmitters for brain activity and learning, and an inability to keep the cells in good health.
Probiotics are strains of good bacteria that work with the human gut to basically make digestion happen normally and fight off any bad bacteria that try to dominate in the gut. Probiotics need prebiotics to feed on and these tend to be foods such as sweet potato, chickpeas and oats rather than the refined and processed carb foods many people consume at each meal. Our gut bacteria have also suffered drastically since genetically modified foods, particularly high in herbicide called glyphosate, infiltrated the food cycle. This herbicide aids the growth of the plant to be robust against pests and attack from fungus, low maintenance and have greater yield. The proteins in these new plants are often resistant to human digestion as well as other animals.
Skepticism is a good trait for a medical doctor or scientist. However, since there is much evidence to support dietary change as the first approach to making health changes, and it is safe and non-invasive intervention. It is up to us often to educate some clinicians who prefer to medicate as a first approach. State your wishes and remember that we were not born medication reliant.
Custom made orthotics could help in the management of your foot, hip, back or knee pain. Orthotics will not permanently change your anatomy or the alignment of your body. Orthotics are custom made to fit the foot of the patient and provide therapeutic value when worn in well-fitting footwear (our Podiatrist can check your shoe fit).
Orthotics at Emirates Integra are crafted using the latest technology according to individual patient-specific requirements and body configuration. Off-the-shelf orthotics will never have same results as custom made orthotics but may be beneficial for minor conditions.
Yes! According to international diabetes guidelines and foot-risk categorisation people with diabetes, even without an active foot problem should have their feet checked once a year to identify whether their foot is at risk from a diabetic foot ulcer. Remember prevention is better than cure.
Yes! As long as your knee/hip/back problem is related or caused by a foot condition. Foot structure and/ or biomechanical problems can have a primary or secondary effect on the lower limb. Often an integrated healthcare approach is needed to treat these problems involving the expertise of Podiatry, Physiotherapy, Orthopedics or Chiropractor.
No, warm water may provide temporary relief, however, it will not treat the underlying cause of the problem which is a small piece of nail growing into the skin thus causing an infection. Indications that your toe has become infected may be swelling, redness, pus, liquid and pain at the site of the ingrown nail. If you suffer from any of these symptoms you should see our Podiatrist immediately.
Yes, not only to remove it, but also to treat the underlying cause of the callous / corn to prevent it from recurring.
Only if you have exhausted all conservative options such as change of footwear, orthotics, manual therapy or splinting and the pain is impacting your lifestyle. If you are not sure what the best treatment approach is for you make an appointment with your Podiatrist so that they can assess your foot function and discuss the most appropriate treatment options for you.
It is important to understand health risks both long term and short term. A health assessment can give an overview of current health status. Following the assessment, a report containing health advice and recommendations will be generated. This assessment is then reviewed with the patient by the exercise physiologist.
Yes, there are two methods offered at our clinic. The first method is the Tanita body composition analyser and is often referred to as bioelectrical impedance or BIA. The Tanita machine passes a small undetectable current through the body to assess body composition. The second method is Skinfold measurements. Skinfolds are a set of measures taken of subcutaneous (fat under the skin) to estimate body fat percentage.
Yes, using a spirometer, total lung capacity and the function can be assessed. This can determine if the lungs are performing at their best. This testing can also examine the effects of smoking on the lungs and signs of other lung diseases such as asthma.
Using an electrocardiograph (ECG) we can assess the basic electrical, rhythm and function of the heart. An exercise stress test assesses the hearts’ ability to respond to exercise. During this test, the exercise physiology will monitor the heart to determine normal function of the heart muscle, electrical function and blood supply to the heart.
Yes, the clinic can offer tailored health assessment and performance assessment. Some of which include, lactate testing, exercise stress testing and maximal strength testing.
