Those pesky headaches can ruin anyone’s day, mood, or even an entire week, but most people do not know that headaches can be eliminated in just a few minutes! Nope, it’s not about using pain killers either. Headaches can be treated in an all-natural way. Here’s how:
1. Essential oils
Essential oils aren’t for aromatherapy only. They can be used to soothe occasional headaches too. Lavender oil boasts powerful sedative qualities and is an excellent mood stabilizer. The study (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22517298 )conducted by the Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, in Iran, showed that the inhalation of natural lavender oil for at least 15 minutes can help treat migraine headaches.
Peppermint oil is another effective option. Its cooling effect stimulates blood flow to the affected areas of the forehead, soothing the muscle contractions that cause a headache.
Rosemary, sandalwood, bergamot, eucalyptus, and ginger essential oils help relieve stress- and anxiety-related headaches.
Massaging the aching areas, such as head, temples, back, shoulders, and neck, can temporarily relieve pain. The massage involves the therapeutic movements of skin around aching areas, increasing blood flow. Regular massage sessions will help get rid of headaches and migraines in the long run. An added bonus: sleep is better as well.
3. Butterbur and feverfew supplements
These are better than pain killers and they can naturally soothe headaches. The Albert Einstein College of Medicine’s study (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15623680) found that taking 75 milligrams of butterbur twice a day helps treat migraine-related headaches. Taking 50 milligrams of feverfew supplement can help fight both regular headaches and migraines. Before taking any supplements, the doctor ahould be consulted.
4. Acupuncture/Chiropractic Care
Sufferers of chronic migraines and tension-type headaches can find relief from, acupuncture and chiropractic care. There are many types and causes of headaches. A thorough history and assessment is needed to determine type of headache, underlying issues and appropriate treatment plan.
5. Warm and cold therapy
With a pulsing headache behind the temples or eyes, an ice cube can be placed on the affected spot. A warm compress can be placed on the back of the neck to reduce tightness. The warm and cold therapy is safe to use for pregnant women and even kids.
Yoga has long been known for its incredible health benefits. Certain yoga poses help cure migraines and combat occasional headaches. Savasana, Bridge Pose, Upward Facing Dog Pose, Matsyendrasana, Seated Forward Bend Pose, Head to Knee Pose, Uttanasana, Wide Angle Standing Forward Bend, Downward Dog Pose, and Forward Virasana are just a few postures that aid in soothing headaches.
Before any of these natural remedies and methods to kill headaches are pursued, be sure to consult the doctor first.
